the townsend video is nothing less than a brilliant critique of pop culture. by framing themselves in a tv set they underscore the camp that they simultaneously mock and embrace. not content to push the borders of pastiche, townsend forces the viewer to reconcile that, while we can look at the eighites from the safe perch of the 21st century, the viewers love for townsend will ulitmately be dicarded to the trash bin of culutral irrelevance. the white cyc backgorund, the non-diegetic teenage pom pom squad – yes these too will be only so much outdated throwback to someday be incorporated (mocked/loved) into the remake of the townsed-def-leopard-cover. high five indeed.

yeah, my uncle had kidney failure and them doctors had to put him on one of those diagesis machines. real sad.
